Yacht Catering in Dubai: BBQ, Catering or Bring Your Own Food?

Mezze platters, grilled skewers and soft drinks on a yacht deck in Dubai at golden hour

Food can make or break a day on the water, and you have more freedom than most people expect. If you are comparing yacht catering Dubai options, there are three: bring your own food and drinks, ask our team to arrange catering, or add a live BBQ chef who grills on deck while you cruise. You can also mix them. This guide explains what is already on board a Gold Water Yachts charter, how each option works, which one suits your group and trip length, and how to keep everything fresh in the Gulf heat. Bottled water, ice and soft drinks are included in every rental, so you only need to plan the rest. See also our sunset dinner cruise in Dubai.

What Is Already on Board Before You Plan the Menu

Every Gold Water Yachts rental includes the yacht, a professional captain and crew, fuel, bottled water, ice and soft drinks. For the full breakdown of the price, see our guide to everything your rental covers.

For food, the yachts have a refrigerator, a microwave and basic cutlery: enough to chill salads and desserts, warm up a dish cooked at home and serve a simple spread. It is not a restaurant kitchen, so the best food on a yacht needs very little work once you leave the dock.

  • Included in the price: bottled water, ice and soft drinks
  • On board: a refrigerator, a microwave and basic cutlery
  • Welcome: your own food and drinks
  • Optional extras: catering, a live BBQ chef, decorations and water sports equipment such as jet skis

Yacht Catering Dubai: Your Three Options Explained

Option 1: Bring your own food and drinks

This is the most flexible choice for small groups. You decide exactly what you eat, from a favourite restaurant's takeaway to dishes cooked at home, and you control the budget. The fridge keeps cold items fresh and the microwave handles reheating.

The trade-off is effort: you shop, pack, carry and serve. That is easy for 8 to 10 friends, but a logistics job for 30 guests.

Option 2: Catering arranged by our team

If you would rather arrive empty-handed, ask for catering when you book. Our team discusses the style of food you want, the number of guests and any dietary needs, then sends you a quote. Catering prices are not listed on the website because they depend on the menu and the group size, so you receive a price for your specific trip.

This form of yacht catering in Dubai suits birthdays, company outings and family gatherings where the host wants to enjoy the cruise rather than manage plates.

Option 3: A live BBQ chef on deck

People who search for a BBQ on a yacht Dubai experience usually picture a chef grilling fresh food on deck while the skyline slides past. It turns the meal into part of the show. Like catering, the live BBQ chef is an optional extra quoted by our team. Ask us to confirm that the yacht you have in mind is set up for a live BBQ before you finalise your plans.

The options combine well. A popular approach is catering or a BBQ for the main meal, plus your own cake, snacks or a favourite dessert from home.

Match the Food to Your Trip Length and Time of Day

One to two hours

A one-hour cruise usually covers the Marina or Harbour, JBR, Bluewaters with Ain Dubai and a view of the Palm Jumeirah crescent; two hours typically adds Atlantis The Palm and Burj Al Arab. You are moving and taking photos most of the time, so finger food works best: mezze, sandwiches, sushi, fruit and a cake.

Three hours or more

From three hours, there is usually time for a swim stop or anchoring and a more relaxed pace. That calm moment at anchor is ideal for a proper meal, whether a catered buffet or a BBQ. Exact routes always depend on sea conditions and Coast Guard rules, and are agreed with the captain.

Sunset and evening

Sunset is the most popular time for photos, as the sun goes down behind Palm Jumeirah. Many hosts serve light bites during golden hour and the main meal once the light fades. For a yacht dinner Dubai offers few better backdrops than the lit skyline of Dubai Marina and Ain Dubai.

During Ramadan, meal timing follows sunset. Our guide to hosting an iftar at sea during Ramadan covers timing and etiquette.

How Group Size Shapes Your Food Plan

The bigger the group, the more a professional setup helps. Here are a few examples from our fleet, with starting prices per hour at the time of writing (October 2026). Prices vary by season and date.

  • Mini Cruiser 40 ft: up to 10 guests, from 489 AED per hour. Bringing your own food is simple at this size.
  • Sunseeker 56 ft: up to 20 guests, from 599 AED per hour. Your own snacks plus catered mains work well.
  • Majesty 66 ft: up to 30 guests, from 899 AED per hour. Catering or a BBQ chef saves the host a lot of work.
  • Explora 60 ft catamaran: up to 40 guests, from 1,549 AED per hour. Large groups usually choose catering.
  • San Lorenzo 82 ft: up to 50 guests, from 1,699 AED per hour. Ideal for a full buffet for a big celebration.

Above 20 guests, think about serving flow as well as quantity. Our article on planning a party for a large group at sea covers music, timing and guest flow. You can also compare every yacht by guest capacity before you decide.

Practical Tips for Food at Sea

  • Pack in sealed containers. There is always a breeze on deck, and lids keep food clean and in place.
  • Protect the cold chain. Average daily highs reach 41 °C in July and 42 °C in August. Carry perishables in a cool bag to the marina, then use the fridge and the included ice.
  • Choose easy-to-eat dishes. Skewers, wraps, sushi and cut fruit beat dishes that spill easily.
  • Bring extra serving items for big groups. Basic cutlery is on board; for larger groups, add napkins, serving spoons, extra plates and bin bags.
  • Label allergens. If a guest has an allergy, label the containers and tell the caterer when you book.
  • Arrive 30 minutes early. You have time to park, carry food on board and settle in before departure.

Most trips start from Dubai Harbour Yacht Club, and some depart from Dubai Marina or Marasi Marina in Business Bay. Your booking confirmation includes a Google Maps pin to the exact berth, which helps you plan how far you will carry cool boxes.

Drinks on Board: Keep It Simple

Water, ice and soft drinks are already included, and you are welcome to bring your own drinks. If your group plans to bring alcohol, check the drinks policy for your specific charter with our team before the day. In Dubai the legal drinking age is 21, only adults of that age may drink, and the captain can refuse service at any time for safety reasons.

Every guest also needs an original passport or a valid Emirates ID on board. This is a Dubai Coast Guard rule, and photos or digital copies are generally not accepted.

How to Add Catering or a BBQ Chef to Your Trip

  1. Choose your yacht, date and time on our online booking page, or call us.
  2. Tell us your food plan: your own food, catering, a BBQ chef or a mix, plus the guest count and any dietary needs.
  3. Receive a quote for the extras. Extra services and extra hours are charged on top of the yacht price.
  4. Confirm with the agreed deposit. Your booking is confirmed once the deposit is received, and the balance is paid before departure.
  5. Add finishing touches such as decorations, which our events and celebrations team can arrange.

If you change your catering plans after booking, tell us as early as possible. Our team explains the notice period when you book.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my own food and drinks on a yacht in Dubai?

Yes. With Gold Water Yachts you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks. The yachts have a refrigerator, a microwave and basic cutlery, and bottled water, ice and soft drinks are included in the rental. It helps to mention your plan when booking so the crew expects your cool boxes, and to pack everything in sealed containers for the deck.

Is there a kitchen on the yacht for cooking?

The yachts have a refrigerator, a microwave and basic cutlery, which is ideal for chilling, reheating and serving. That equipment is meant for chilling and reheating rather than full cooking, so plan dishes that are ready to eat or only need warming. If you want food cooked fresh on board, ask our team about adding the live BBQ chef extra.

How much does catering cost for a yacht trip?

Catering and the live BBQ chef are optional extras, and our team quotes them for your trip based on the menu, the number of guests and the date. There is no fixed published price because every group is different. When you ask for a quote, share your guest count, preferred food style and any allergies so the price you receive is accurate.

Can I bring a birthday cake on board?

Yes, a cake counts as your own food, and the refrigerator keeps it cool until the big moment. Bring it in a sturdy box and keep it out of direct sun on the way to the marina, especially in the hotter months. If you want the yacht decorated as well, decorations are an optional extra our team can add to your booking.

What food works best on a boat in hot weather?

Choose dishes that stay fresh and are easy to eat standing up: mezze, wraps, sushi, grilled chicken, salads in sealed tubs and cut fruit. Avoid cream-heavy desserts that melt quickly unless they stay in the fridge until serving. Keep everything in a cool bag on the way to the marina, then put perishables in the fridge as soon as you board.
